Here are a few updates about how the UUA is publicizing the International Day of Climate Action:

1. A UUA press release about the International Day of Climate Action went out to media contacts around the country (including religion reporters and environmental reporters) yesterday. An abbreviated version (without the list of local event contacts that was provided directly to the media) of the press release is available from the UUA

2. Please consider creating a release about your congregation's International Day of Climate Action events to send to your local media outlets! You are more than welcome to adapt the national release. You may also want to consider writing op-eds, letters to the editor, and post-event releases.

Please e-mail Shelby Meyerhoff, UUA public witness specialist, at smeyerhoff@uua.org if you would like any further guidance on how to do local media outreach or would like to be connected with other Unitarian Universalists organizing events in your area. The UUA also has resources about how to write and distribute a press release about environmentally-friendly events.

In addition, 350.org has templates and other action resources for writing releases, op-eds, and letters to the editor at
http://www.350.org/action-resources

3. Shelby is keeping a large list of press contacts for congregations planning International Day of Climate Action events. The UUA will use that list to connect reporters interested in environmental issues to spokespeople in their area, now and in the future. If you have not already e-mailed Shelby and you would your congregation's spokesperson added to the list, please contact her directly at smeyerhoff@uua.org

4. Rowan Van Ness, Program Associate for Environmental Justice Unitarian, is making a list of all of the International Day of Climate Action events in Unitarian Universalist congregations. She will let you know when that list has been posted on UUA.org, and she will be using Facebook, Twitter, e-mail, etc. to encourage Unitarian Universalists to find and attend an event in their area.

5. For Unitarian Universalists in and around Massachusetts: The 350 Climate Convocation is taking place on Sunday, October 18th at 2 p.m. at the Harvard University Memorial Church in Cambridge, MA. UUA President Rev. Peter Morales will be delivering the interfaith prayer and musician and Unitarian Universalist minister Rev. Fred Small will lead the group in singing "Three Five O."
