Environmental Justice Projects

Need project ideas for your congregation? To help you get started, here is a spreadsheet of environmental justice projects from recent Green Sanctuary program applications. You may search/sort this data base by the following key words: Community Outreach, Energy Conservation, Environmental Advocacy, Ethical Eating, Habitat Restoration, Micro-financing, Mountain Top Removal, and Water Rights. It also includes links to congregational websites where you can find more information on the projects. This resource is particularly useful for congregations seeking accreditation as a Green Sanctuary Congregation. The list was compiled by Emily Kao, winter 2010 Environmental Intern in the Advocacy & Witness Washington office, based on information provided by Robin Nelson, UUA Green Sanctuary program manager in the office of Congregational Stewardship Services.

Go on a Low Carbon Diet, with courses from The Empowerment Institute

here's how:   http://www.uuministryforearth.org/Low_Carbon_Diet

Discussion Courses from Northwest Earth Institute (NWEI).

Many UU congregations have found that the study guides from the Northwest Earth Institute (NWEI) make wonderful discussion courses.

Each guide is complete with readings and questions so that the sessions can be self-organized and guided.  Menu for the Future is an excellent accompaniment to the Ethical Eating Study Action Issue, and Global Warming: Changing CO₂urse is a good companion for the Climate Change SAI.
Other courses include: Choices in Sustainable Living; Voluntary Simplicity; Sustainable Systems At Work; Healthy Children, Healthy Planet; Discovering a Sense of Place; Reconnecting with Earth; and A World of Health.

The Study Guides can be ordered online at www.NWEI.org.  By selecting UUMFE/Green Sanctuary as your connection, NWEI shares some of the profit with UUMFE.
